Papua New Guinea

This story starts all the way back in September of 2023.

Right before I went to Montana for 9 months of Bible School (SBS). A friend was praying for me and felt like the Lord highlighted this verse to them.

Hebrews 12:1-2

A few weeks go by.

October 4th - We have a prayer and intercession time for YWAM Montana’s new initiative 33 in 3.

We walk into the Prayer Room and everyone gets handed a name tag. I go over and pray for one of the staff who’s name tag says, “Purser.” I don’t know what this means or even how to pronounce it, but while we are praying I feel the Lord saying, “Halle that’s you, you’re gonna be the Purser.”

“What? No I’m not.” I respond. That’s probably just me in my own head. I think to myself.

I don’t think too much of it, but I write it in my notes just in case that really was the Lord and not just me.

October 8th - I am deep in the workload of SBS and I get a text from my dad. It reads: “Was thinking about Heb 12 this week. How Jesus endured the cross. He had his heart set on the finish line and not his current circumstances. I’m proud of how you are running the race. I know it’s not always easy, probably not all that fun at times, but you are enduring the hardships.”

I am starting to realize that the Lord keeps highlighting this verse in Hebrews to me, so I spend some time in meditation and prayer about it. The words endurance and endured stuck out to me.

Maybe this was going to be a season that I would need to ‘Endure’?

What is 33 in 3?

YWAM Montana had started a partnership with YWAM Ships and YWAM in Papua New Guinea to commit to translate the Bible into 33 languages over the course of the next 3 years. This new initiative is called 33 in 3.

October 19th, Base Prayer and Fasting Day.

I slept in this morning because my breakfast workduty was cancelled. The base was hosting a day of prayer and fasting so the kitchen was closed. I worked on some homework and then walked to the main building at 9am. We started our time out with worship and prayer.

They had told us we would spend a majority of our time that day praying for 33 in 3.

I felt a nudge from the Lord to go write my name down on the page titled “PURSER

For a while I didn’t do it. I walked around and read all the different pages and options for serving on the YWAM Liberty Ship…

Finally, I thought to myself - why not just write my name down. This doesn’t mean I’m committed and going, just that I am interested.

I walk over and read what someone else had already written on the page, “Endure” was the word I got for whoever will fill this role Hebrews 12:2.”

I am shocked.

Ok Lord, I hear you. You are speaking pretty clearly.

I write my name down.

At the end of our time of worship we all walk outside to stand in the shape of the ship to pray one last blessing over it for the day. While we are walking back inside, Isaac, my school session leader said to me, “Halle, you remind me of somebody who would purse.”

My jaw drops.

I just stare at him.

He had no idea the process that I was on with the Lord concerning being the Purser. He was just making a joke. But to me it wasn’t just a joke, it was another confirmation that the Lord was speaking loud and clear!

Now what?

On January 27th 2025, I will fly to Papua New Guinea to serve on the YWAM Liberty Ship to serve as the Purser for 5 months. I feel very under qualified for this job, but the Lord has made it abundantly clear that this is where he wants me to go.

I am so excited for what the Lord has in store!

While I am unsure of many things and what exactly my time on the ship will entail, I am so confident in the Lord and who he is, and what he has spoken.

I haven’t forgotten that “endure” is the word surrounding this whole story. I trust that on the hard days the Lord will be with me and I’m optimistic that sometimes hard things can be good things. I don’t do missions because it is easy or comfortable. I do it because the Lord has saved and absolutely transformed my life. He is holy and worthy of my “yes.” No matter the struggles or difficulties I will GO because Jesus is worth it!

Please keep me in your prayers as I embark on this next adventure!

- Sincerely Halle Kate. 🤍
